Standard 1: Use of Information and Ideas
School library media candidates encourage reading and lifelong learning by stimulating interest and fostering competencies in the effective use of ideas and information. They apply a variety of strategies to ensure access to resources and information in a variety of formats to all members of the learning community. Candidates promote efficient and ethical information-seeking-behavior as part of the school library media program and its services.

Libguide: Libguides are a way to guide patrons to the specific information they are looking for. They can be useful in many situations. Here is a sample libguide I put together for a class assignment.

Wiki: The 4th and 5th graders I worked with in the summer of 2010 did research on pasta (you can see the results on the Teaching and Learning page). Because Pasta is not a typical subject studied by this grade level, many of the databases had limited information and the books on the topic were far above grade level. To help them find accessible information, I used the class wiki to share some websites It thought would be helpful for them to use. When the students were continuing to struggle specifically with how pasta is made, I thought I would share some videos as well, which are also linked on the wiki-page.
