Being in an actual classroom reminds me how much I like to learn. I know as students, we always have things to complain about: too much reading, not enough sleep, group projects, but we are all here for one reason or another, and I hope others are here for the same reason. The love of learning.
A few things I learned today or wrote down to reflect upon. Since starting this program, I have had several people ask THE question: Are libraries even going to exist in the near future. I got a great answer to that question today. Librarians are and have always been about access to information and not necessarily about books. It just happens that a lot of information in the past was housed in books. There will always be information and the need to access, so until the need goes away, we will have a need for libraries!
We also learned a ton about how searches function today which was fascinating and VERY helpful. It changes the way I look at databases and Google. Understanding will help me assist my future students and patrons. I will probably end up "borrowing" the Boolean Search Analogy that Dr. Nicholson gave us (and gave us permission to use) because this is something I have always struggled with. It's a great analogy to bring to students because it's something they will understand. (Ask me if you are interested in hearing more! It will be great practice to explain to others).
